But not any more after the council agreed to fund the group’s operation out of Padstow Senior Citizens Centre on a weekly basis.
Originally held from 2015 at Bankstown City Aged Care, the Social Club venue then moved to the BCCT office until numbers outgrew the BCCT board room.
BCCT’s Hayley Orr says the Social Club provides vital support and connection for many isolated elderly in the community.
“The new venue can cater for up to 50 people so there is no more waiting list needed and our doors are open for more to attend,” she said.
As well as doing arts and crafts, games and trivia, BCCT will also use Padstow Senior Citizens Centre for new group activities including a Men’s group and a Knitting Nannas group.
“The BCCT Social Club is made up of men and women of varied ages, mobility, cultures, and backgrounds,” Hayley said.
“It is a safe place for clients to connect with one another over a cuppa or an activity, along with a BCCT team member on site to assist the group.”
If interested in joining the group, call BCCT on 9772 4928.
No more waiting lists as social group moves into bigger venue
SUCH was the popularity of Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport’s (BCCT) Social Club that they had to operate with a fortnightly waiting list.
