No holiday with staff unable to pay bills

SOME are trying to make the most of the lockdown but for other tradesmen their ‘holiday’ is hugely stressful, especially if they have workers sitting at home unable to pay the bills.

Fast Plumbing owner Chris says people don’t realise that tradies have exemptions to attend to emergency work.
“If you have a burst pipe or a blocked drain you can’t ignore it but people are putting off all work and not spending money until restrictions ease,” he said.
“I don’t understand why the Government would lock us all down, it’s very bad for the economy and our whole market has died.
“I’d like to let people know we are Covid-safe and available for emergency work as we haven’t had a call.
“We do a lot of bathroom renovations and that’s usually one of the first areas people will delay.
“A lot of tradies do live week to week so the financial stress is huge, service station holdups and robberies are on the rise because of the lockdowns I believe and I really hope that we don’t see more suicides and domestic violence occurring.”
Chris says he really feels for his wife too trying to stay on top of homeschooling their children.
“She is drained mentally and physically just trying to do the right thing by their education; it’s an incredibly stressful time for everyone,” he added.
