State MP for Granville Julia Finn inspected progress on the upgrade to Westmead Public School, cutting the ribbon on three new classrooms.
It is a large multicultural school with a student population of 871 students K-6, 98 per cent of whom come from a Language Background other than English. The school has an outstanding reputation within the community for excellence in student academic achievement.
Ms Finn said the school has been the largest public school in her electorate for some time.
“I am delighted to be here to formally open three new classrooms to deliver a better learning environment for local school kids,” she said
The growth in school population has put pressure on teaching spaces with the school being home to 24 demountable teaching spaces.
Ms Finn’s visit came as the government pushes forward with its election commitment of converting 16,000 teaching and support staff roles from temporary to permanent positions.
New classrooms, more teachers
As students headed back to school after the school holidays last month, the NSW Government was getting on with the job of putting students into permanent classrooms and giving teachers a stable future.
