New Aussie champ

CROWNED the Australian Champion, East Hills’ Makayla Cook, 15, has won the Australian Championship Title for Formula Futures Power Boat Racing.

Power races to amazing victory

Beating 16 strong competitors, the Picnic Point High School student has been racing for three years and is in her last year of J3 class racing in Formula Futures for competitors aged 12 to 16 years with a 15-horsepower engine.
This is a family powering on as her brother Max also races in the Formula Future J2 class and Dad Martin races a 5-litre Hydroplane in the senior racing.
Makayla says that it’s thanks to her brother that she got involved: “He looked like he was having a great time so I thought I would give it a go.”
She will be stepping up into the next class of racing known as F4 Class for the next season which kicks off in September.
“I am feeling excited about stepping up but nervous as well,” she added.
“To other young racers, I would say just go out and have fun and make sure you can read a clock.”
Makayla’s next major meeting will be in early August and she is hoping to bring home the NSW Championship Title for her class to place alongside her Australian Champion Trophy.
