“Do not mingle between households,” was her blunt message to everyone.
“It is really important for people not to leave home unless they absolutely have to and, in particular, do not mingle.”
The Premier, who has now banned Cumberland residents from leaving the area except for authorised workers, also said if you do need to work “please make sure you adhere to all the Covid safe plans, whether it is wearing a mask, good hand hygiene, social distancing, or the other measures that are in place.
Residents can still go to work within the area if their workplace is permitted to be open.
“Every time anyone of us steps foot outside the house we have to assume we have the virus or anyone we remotely come in contact with has the virus,” she said.
Mayor Steve Christou says the State Government’s lack of action is having a devastating impact on the community, but finally NSW Health has confirmed that they will roll out vaccination hubs using local facilities, which he had suggested weeks ago.
“This is of little comfort now that we are in lockdown,” he said.
“The targeted approach should have come out hard and fast from the outset, rather than the drip feed of vaccinations our community has had in recent months.”
The Premier also again stressed the importance of getting tested – even if you have the mildest of symptoms.
“It is vital people continue to come forward for testing to help us find any Covid-19 cases in the community,” she said.
