They will perform exquisite choral works by 13 composers and works by 10 poets whose works will be brought to life at the end of each performance by renowned actor Geoff Sirmai whose commanding presentations in English will create the perfect, soul-stirring atmosphere.
Under the direction of founding conductor Margot McLaughlin, Coro Austral was founded in 2010 and performs 13th to 21st century choral music from Australia and around the world.
Gabriel said this year marked significant anniversaries of four of the composers and four of the poets.
“Among those, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Australian poet Oodgeroo Nunuccal who will be remembered with the interpretation of Hope, Oodgeroo’s poetic vision for a just future.”
Gabriel said the concert would be mind-blowing.
“It’s hard to describe just how special it is and it’s such a huge program; everyone should come,” he said.
‘Poesía y Música’ is on this Sunday, June 4, from 2.30pm at St Augustine’s Church, Balmain.
Wine and refreshments will be provided to audience members after the performance.
