Muscles in for top win

HE’S trained by last year’s Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kyle Bruce and now Newington’s Jacob Moyers has had his own taste of glory after winning the Super Heavyweight Division in the NSW Weightlifting Championships at Sydney Olympic Park.

Part of the Memorial Open competition, Jacob won the Open Men’s 109+ bodyweight category; he lifted 100 in the snatch, 140 in the Clean & Jerk to total 240kg.
He is also the current record holder for the NSW Masters 35-39 years age group in the Men’s 109+ bodyweight category.
Coached by Kyle at his Uplift Gym in Merrylands, Jacob has only been weightlifting for four or five years after leaving the Navy.
“I’ve always had a passion for training and was missing the physicality that you have in an armed forces career, so my wife Natasha suggested taking up weightlifting and I have not looked back,” Jacob said.
“I train four or five days a week and I definitely recommend it to others; you can take it up at any age or fitness level, it’s one of the best sports you can do because you’re always training for your next goal.
“I want to thank my wife and also Kyle; I’m proud to have won my Division.”
Looking forward to defending his championship win early next year and breaking some more state records in the meantime, Jacob said while he would be happy to take on the best in Australia, he didn’t think he was “Olympic material”.
“You never know but I plan to leave that up to Kyle,” he said.
