Min Sook Moon was last seen walking along Rawson Street in Epping at 1.20pm on Monday afternoon and she was reported missing by family members two days later after failing to contact them.
Strike Force Cusso was established to investigate her disappearance, with officers determining that she got into a car at a carpark near where she was last seen.
At 9.30am on Saturday, a 55-year-old man went to Eastwood Police Station and he has subsequently been charged with Ms Moon’s murder.
As part of their investigation, officers went to the park just before before 4pm and established a crime scene after finding a woman’s body, which has yet to be formally identified.
Ms Moon’s son Adam released a statement on Sunday on behalf of her family, thanking the community for sharing their appeals for information and saying they were still coming to terms with the loss.
“We have all been deeply affected by this tragedy, and it is very hard to know that she will never be coming home after being so cruelly taken from us,” he said.
“As we continue to process this news, our family has requested privacy at this time.”
