Mums get language help

DO you have young children and want to improve your English?

Then come and try one of the free Mum 2 Mum groups located at Bass Hill, Greenacre and Lakemba.
Mum 2 Mum provides a program where women with young children aged up to five years, can learn and practise their English conversation skills.
For many women a lack of free childcare, is the biggest barrier to them being able to learn English.
While learning and speaking English is the focus of the group, it also aims to help increase social networks, community connections and help women settle in Australia by making them feel welcome.
As well as the English teacher, there is a team of volunteer mums that also help women practise their English.

The room is often buzzing with conversation, as Saima, one of the participants said: “Since starting at Mum 2 Mum, I have more self confidence to speak English and it’s great meeting other mums.”
The group has been running for two years at Hampden Park Public School and with the support of a Fostering Integration Grant from the Federal Government, Mum 2 Mum now also operates from Greenacre Community Centre on Fridays, 9.30am-11.30am, Lakemba Public School on Thursdays,12.30–2.30pm and the Muslim Womens Association at Bass Hill on Wednesdays, 9.30am–11.30am.
The groups also go on regular excursions to cafés, shops, libraries, Botanical Gardens, cinema and art gallery.
