The program allows a child to be fitted for a specialised, custom-made, real hair suction wig that gives them increased confidence and self-esteem in their everyday lives.
Cassie says she knows how good it feels to have hair and she wants to make sure other kids “have that same feeling”.
Her decision to chop up to 55cm of her own hair, also comes after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.
Witnessing her mother go through cancer treatment gave Cassie the idea to help someone who is going through a similar experience.
“While she was battling through chemo I saw how much losing her hair affected her,” Cassie said.
“She’s the reason I have any confidence and seeing how upset she felt gave me the idea of helping someone who has to go through that same thing.”
With wigs costing families up to $6,000 and lasting one to two years, they can spend tens of thousands of dollars on their purchase, especially during children’s cancer treatment.
Her proud mum said children going through cancer treatment deserve comfort during the gruelling process of chemotherapy.
“I’m proud of Cassandra and know how important this initiative will be to help someone going through a tough time,” Ms Cotsis said.
