Ms Burney is the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Tony Burke will be Leader of the House, as well as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, and the Arts, and Jason Clare is the Minister for Education.
Mr Burke said he was Labor’s last minister for the Arts and couldn’t be happier about being back in the portfolio, while his role as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations will be a great opportunity to see more secure jobs where wages can start moving again.
“It’s a central issue in the local area and I’ll be working to deliver better pay for the whole nation,” he said.
The Bible that Mr Burke used for his swearing in was purchased in 1880 by his great grandfather who immigrated from Ireland to Australia.
Mr Clare says education is the most powerful cause for good in this country and “it will be an extraordinary privilege to serve as Minister for Education in an Albanese Labor Government”.
“I know how important education is. I am the first person in my family to go to uni. I am the first person in my family to finish high school. The first to finish Year 10,” he said.
“I am where I am today because of the incredible teachers I had at Cabramatta Public School and Canley Vale High School and the big changes that people like Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke and Paul Keating made.
“Education changes lives.”
The 23-member cabinet will include “the largest number of women who have ever served in an Australian Cabinet, with 10 women included”, with Richard Marles as the Deputy Prime Minister.
“This is an exciting team,” the Prime Minister said.
“It’s a team which is overflowing, I think, with talent, with people who are absolutely committed to making a difference as Ministers and Assistant Ministers in my Government.”
