State MP for Auburn, Linda Voltz, welcomed the changes saying that “as a former Birrong PS and Birrong GHS old girl, I am thrilled to have these suburbs now fall within the boundaries of Auburn”.
Her grandfather built the family home in 1938 on Wentworth Street, Birrong, where Ms Voltz and her mum lived.
“These are suburbs I know well and have long held a sentimental place in our family that saw them transform from the bush of the early 1930s to the suburbs they are today,” she said.
The changes – which come into effect for the March 2023 State Government election – will also mean the suburbs of Silverwater, Newington and Sydney Olympic Park will now be part of Parramatta.
However, Ms Voltz says she is determined to continue to fight for them to get the best outcome for the new high school, to see the delivery of another primary school in Carter Street and to continue to pursue Parramatta Council for the long overdue traffic lights at the dangerous corner of Bennelong Parkway and Hill Road.
