MP welcomes firefighters to conduct home safety check

DID you know you can contact your local fire station and have them visit your home for a free fire safety check?

State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz, invited Lidcombe Fire Station to her Granville home for a safety appraisal.
Lidcombe Fire Station’s Luke said if a home did not have a smoke alarm, they would install one for free.
“We look at the layout of your house and want to make sure you have smoke alarms outside of the bedrooms to alert you in case of fire when you are asleep,” he told Lynda.
“If you have teenage children who close their doors, I always suggest you put one inside the bedroom because kids these days have laptops, iPhones and chargers, and all sorts of stuff running in their rooms, you can’t help that.”
Last winter, there were 1,063 residential fires in NSW, an increase of 119 on 2022. Eight people lost their lives and 115 others were injured.
Ms Voltz said with the winter officially a week away, now was the time to take proactive steps to safeguard our homes and loved ones.
“I urge everyone in our community to take advantage of the free smoke detector assessment and installation service provided by the Lidcombe Fire Station,” she said.
“It’s a small step that can make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and well-being of our families during the winter months.”
To have your home checked, call Lidcombe Fire Station on 9493 1030.
“We’ll come out and make sure your home is safe, it won’t cost you anything and it may just save your life,” Luke said.
