There is no known cure but there are medications available to help manage it, something the Bessenyei family of Padstow Heights has had to live with for the past 17 years after daughter Ellee-Rose was diagnosed with it as an 18-month-old.
To help raise funds for Epilepsy Action Australia, a charity providing education and support services to children and adults with epilepsy and other seizure disorders, the family is hosting a movie fundraiser on Purple Day for Epilepsy on Saturday, March 26.
Gathering at Bankstown Hoyts to watch the 3pm family movie, ‘Sing’, mum Melissa is hoping to also host a ‘shoppers mini mart’ in the movie complex foyer from 2pm where local businesses can offer their wares for sale for the cost of $20 a table.
Movie tickets cost $30, with half the proceeds going to the charity, and there will also be a raffle to which businesses and individuals are invited to donate.
“It will be a private screening of the movie for those who attend but we hope it will be popular as the charity really needs ongoing support plus it should be a fun afternoon,” Melissa said.
