Most keen to keep footy season ‘alive’

WITH some community sports organisations making the tough decision to cancel their winter games and kick off again next year, Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) is exploring ways to keep the season alive.

Sending out a survey last week to over 2,500 players from its 19 local clubs to gauge their feelings, BDAFA General Manager Leanne Millar says that within hours, 1,200 responses had been returned with the majority keen to extend the season over spring and summer.
“We don’t want to impact on summer sports like cricket,” Millar said.
“But we will shortly start discussions with the council about other fields we could use as there are a lot here that would be suitable.”
She says it is fantastic that so many players are keen to keep going since they love and miss their footy so much.
“It will be wonderful if we can extend the season over summer so long as we can do it safely and not impact on other sports,” she said.
“But for now, it’s up to the council and Gladys; we all can’t wait for life after lockdown.”
