Moses ‘Origin Man of Match’

EVEN the heroics of Origin II star Mitchell Moses was not enough to lift the Parramatta Eels off the bottom of the table as they went down to the Newcastle Knights 34-26 on Saturday.

‘Man of the Match’, Moses (pictured) had lead NSW to a famous Origin victory last Wednesday night in a playmaking clinic at the MCG.
Putting to bed concerns over his form, the Eels gun tallied four try assists in the Blues’ 38-18 win, equalling Brad Fittler’s record for the most in an Origin clash.
Despite having mountains of possession early in the Saturday clash, the Knights had to stand and watch the Eels open the scoring through Blaize Talagi as a repeat set for the Blue and Gold paid off, with Moses converting for a 6-0 lead.
The Knights soon went in before the Eels hit back as Moses went left from the scrum and left the Knights defence clutching at the air to score wide out. The conversion was successful and the Eels had a 12-6 lead.
Maiko Sivo was denied a second try before the Knights scored again, making it 12-10 at half-time and went in again after the break.
The Knights were soon up 22-20 and then had an eight-point lead before Junior Paulo closed the gap to two but the Knights sealed the deal in the closing minutes.
Eels interim coach Trent Barrett said they had opportunities they didn’t ice.
“We didn’t have any luck with the bunker calls,” he said.
“But the way they turned up and saved so many tries was a credit to the effort.”
Hoping to turn around their fortunes, the Eels next do battle against Souths on Thursday night from 7.50pm at Commbank Stadium.
