Missed out on win aiding injured

Summer Maarbani with her Zone Championship trophy wins.

AFTER representing Bankstown Sports Athletics Club (BSAC) at Zone level last season in the Under 8 age group, Summer Maarbani qualified for the next hurdles level up – Regionals.

The event’s start gun went off and Summer was soon in the lead, winning the race until her “neighbour”, a girl from another club whom Summer had not met, tripped over her hurdle and fell.
Summer stopped racing to help the girl, wanting to make sure she was ok, but therefore lost the race. She did not advance to the finals and did not receive what looked like a guaranteed medal.
“We, as a club, are very proud of Summer and the great sportsmanship she showed that day,” a BSAC spokesperson said.
“Her parents, Ge and Tara, are super proud too and have told us that this is just part of Summer’s personality.
“What a great role model she is; showing empathy and admirable morals at just eight years of age.”
