Minute’s silence at meeting

BRIEFLY putting politics aside, Cumberland Councillors and the public gallery paused for a minute’s silence to remember those killed in a series of bomb attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, as well as a fatal shooting at a synagogue in San Diego.

Minsters from multiple faiths read prayers before the meeting began, including Pastor Carly Lewis from Merrylands C3 Church, Sheik Mohammed Alzoubi from Auburn Islamic Community Centre, Pastor Suji from the Toongabbie Church and Father Chaminda Wanigasena from the Sri-Lankan NSW Catholic Association.
Mayor Greg Cummings extended the council’s condolences to those who died, those who are suffering and to the families who are grieving.
