Menacing dog owner fined

A MAN has been fined $3,000 after his ‘menacing’ dog was found unrestrained and not wearing the prescribed muzzle and collar in a public place.

Emre Dalkilic’s German Shepherd, Rocky, first came on the council’s radar in April 2018, after it was repeatedly found roaming the streets of Canterbury Bankstown.
In April 2019, it was declared a “menacing dog” for showing unreasonable aggression towards a person at Villawood.
In October 2019, the council issued Mr Dalkilic a penalty notice (of $1,760) for not following the control requirements of owning a menacing dog, after Rocky was found unrestrained and not wearing the prescribed muzzle and collar at an off-leash dog park in Birrong.
Last month, Bankstown Local Court found Mr Dalkilic guilty of allowing his dog out in public without it wearing the prescribed collar, and increased the penalty to $3,000. He has also been ordered to pay a further $2,500 in costs.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said the council had zero tolerance for people who flaunted the law and repeatedly put the community’s safety at risk.
