Meet Kevin Koala to help stop polio

CRIPPLING and potentially fatal, polio is the world’s forgotten disease and something that should have been history a long time ago.

A vaccine-preventable disease, polio still threatens children in parts of the world today although great progress has been made since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) more than three decades ago.
Continuing their efforts to raise funds and awareness, Padstow Rotary enlisted the assistance of campaign mascot ‘Kevin Koala’ after Rotary clubs were tasked with raising awareness of polio eradication by photographing their club’s provided ‘koala’ in unique locations.
Director of New Generations at Padstow Rotary, Joel Johnson, said that as part of the End Polio initiative, ‘Kevin’ met with politicians at NSW Parliament including Opposition Leader Mark Speakman (pictured) and the State MP for East Hills, Kylie Wilkinson.
“Spreading the message and raising awareness is very important and we thank the MPS for supporting the initiative,” he said. To donate, visit Rotary.org or endpolio.org.
