Mayor urging it’s time to party thanks to new grants program

FETE-STYLE festivals with entertainment, performances and stalls, are being encouraged with a new grants programs helping increase the opportunities for community groups to hold events.

The Village Festival Grant Funding Program will be offering up to $25,000, with applications now open to community groups interested in hosting a free events in their local town or village centre.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said the program was a great opportunity for groups who wanted to host events for the community.
“It’s time for a street party in our suburbs,” Mayor Khal Asfour said.
“Our small village centres, from Belmore to Bass Hill, have great character and community and it’s time we had a party close to you.
“We’re looking for organised and committed groups who want to deliver for the community, and the council will provide a dollar for dollar contribution up to $25,000 to make your event happen.
“We want people to be proud of their suburb and bring people into our local mum and dad shops as well. I’m looking forward to see community ideas come to life.”
