Markets praised for keeping thousands safe

WITH thousands of visitors every day, the Sydney Markets at Flemington has been praised for the way it has handled the fight against Covid-19.

Assistant Police Commissioner Gary Warboys said police who were responding to a number of calls about non compliance at the markets, were greeted by Markets’ management with a Covid safe plan that “was as good as they have seen”.
The markets, which has almost 5,000 people on site each day to deliver fruit, vegetables and other essential items, has been handing out more than 4,000 masks every day, deep cleaning on a regular basis, and handing out education packages to individuals and employers.
Police will return there and continue to work with that large entity at the markets to make sure that they continue to deliver a very safe business product in what is a very essential part of the economy,” Asst Comm Warboys said.
A spokesperson for the Markets said it was a team effort and everyone should be proud.
“We would like to thank all stakeholders for remaining vigilant and agile during these times,” he said.
“Remember to check in via the Service NSW QR Code when entering the site, always wear a mask, practice social distancing and proper hygiene when visiting the site, and continue to follow NSW Health advice.”
