About 10.15pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, emergency services were called to a unit at Ewart Street, Marrickville, after reports a man was found unresponsive.
On arrival, police found a 76-year-old man on the floor inside the unit. He was unable to be revived.
Detectives from Inner West Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
A post-mortem examination revealed the man’s primary cause of death was pneumonia.
Following extensive inquiries, a 46-year-old man was arrested at a home in Marrickville about 9.15am on Wednesday (July 29).
He was charged with manslaughter.
Police will allege in court that the man, who was acting as the 76-year-old man’s carer at the time of his death, was grossly negligent in his duty of care to the victim.
