Police have been told the injured man was found by a friend on the footpath at the intersection of Linden Avenue and Punchbowl Road, Punchbowl, and driven to hospital about 7pm.
The man is in a stable condition.
Campsie Police established a crime scene at Punchbowl, which was examined by specialist forensic police.
