Dad, daughter die in horror car crash

A FATHER and his 12-year-old daughter were killed in a horrific crash in Milperra on Sunday night, which also injured his 10-year-old son.

The trio were travelling in a ride-share car when it turned from Milperra Road into Murray Jones Drive and was “impacted” by another car and rolled, trapping the driver and three backseat passengers, about 7.40pm.
The driver, a 52-year-old man, was also treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden has viewed dashcam footage and said the ride-share car turned right at the intersection when it “wasn’t safe to do so”.
“I’m satisfied the traffic control lights were working at the time and that the driver did undertake a right-hand turn and on the dashcam, there are clearly other vehicles visible coming from the opposing direction,” he said.
“I’m satisfied that it wasn’t safe to do so (turn right).”
He said that 12 lives had been lost on NSW roads in the past nine days in “tragic, but preventable circumstances”.
“Drivers are dropping the ball … they are not as sharp as they should be and they are not taking the responsibility as serious as they should be,” he said.
“This is a driver responsibility issue.”
The Crash Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the incident and police are urging anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV vision or information about the crash, to contact Bankstown police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
