Magpies full of chirp over win

☐ Magpies’ tough halfback with a nifty left foot, Michael Lemme in action while celebrating 50 senior footy games over the weekend.

EXPECTING a fiery encounter, Saturday saw the Inner West Magpies’ Men’s Premier and Reserve sides travel to play Pennant Hills Demons.

First up were the Ressies facing a strong Demons side. With a final score 124-17, Ryan Bamford was named best on followed by T Ryan, B Robertson, Tim Lambert, A Bremner and Paul Walsh.
The Prems men took to the oval and with a must win game to keep their final hopes alive, the Magpies boys fought hard while the Demons also put up a fight with a first quarter score line 1-6 in favour of the Magpies.
The second quarter saw the Magpies step on the gas and apply some score board pressure heading into the break 49-27. In the last quarter, the Magpies really dug deep and showed excellent teamwork to extend their lead and knock the Demons team off, finishing up 95-50.
Best on was Matthew Belbasis, followed by Jacob, Bauer, Daniel O’Connell, Tyler Blake, Callum McEvoy-Gray and Jock White. The Prems sides win keeps their finals hopes alive heading into the last two games of the regular season.
The Women’s Premier division side travelled to Macquarie Uni to play the top of the ladder side. The ladies wrapped up the day with a final score 75-6 in favour of the Uni side. Kate Lawson was a power house in defence and was awarded best on, followed by Ella Heads, Meredith Montgomerie, Lael Kassem, Madeline Convery and Tayliya Kennedy.
The Inner West Magpies will host the Men’s Master Division Grand Final this Saturday, August 8, at Picken Oval from 10.50am. Come along and support the piepack this weekend!
