SATURDAY saw a day full of footy for the Inner West Magpies, with the Sydney Masters Men’s Division kicking off bright and early at 9am at Picken Oval.

The match started off with opposition Southern Power kicking two goals to the Magpies’ one. The Magpies came out strong in the final quarter, kicking five goals to extend their lead to a comfortable 69-46 victory.
Next up was the Men’s U19s, who faced up against North Shore Bombers and again showed their strength with a final score of 100-14.
The Men’s Reserves took to Picken next against Camden Cats. The Magpies came out strong kicking three goals to the Cats’ none in the first quarter but the Cats clawed their way back in, kicking a goal in the final minute to clinch the game by a single point.
The Magpies Women’s team played next against top of the ladder Sydney Uni.
The Magpies fought hard all day and applied physical pressure rattling the students and keeping them to a 39 point margin at the final siren.
Captain Melissa Freckelton kicked the Magpies’ only goal and was named best on, followed by Belinda Harrison. A stalwart of the club and a rebounded contributor in Sydney women’s AFL, Harrison was instrumental in the formation of the Macquarie Uni Womens team in 2010 before returning to the nest to continue her playing career.
The final match saw the Men’s Premier Division line up against the Camden Cats. The Magpies fought hard to be in reach but were unable to capitalise and saw the Cats steal the win 85-70.
