Lucky escape

A MAN and a woman had a lucky escape after a fire ripped through their Granville home on Monday morning.

Man, woman make it out in time as blaze rips through their home

The first of six Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews called to fight the fire arrived at the single storey fibro cottage in Kemp Street at 8.35am to find a large volume of smoke billowing from the roof.
A FRNSW spokesperson said firefighters had to access the ceiling to contain the fire but were able to ensure it didn’t spread to neighbouring properties.
A man, who was a tenant in the rental property and did not want to be identified, told the Review that he was at the rear of the house doing washing when a neighbour alerted him to the fire.
He said he then called out to a woman who was also inside the home, and they were both able to escape safely.
“Everyone is okay,” he said.
A fire investigator was called to the scene and a spokesperson for NSW Police said they were working with FRNSW to determine the cause and origin of the blaze but were not treating the fire as suspicious.
