The EPA found the fish kill was the result of low oxygen levels which were most likely due to natural causes. It estimated that a few thousand fish and prawns died in Haslams Creek and its exit into Homebush Bay.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has since cleaned up the fish and further testing has found oxygen levels are normal.
“It is distressing to see a significant number of fish killed and a variety of species impacted,” an EPA spokesperson said.

Low oxygen level not chemical pollution blamed for fish death
PRELIMINARY investigations have shown that a fish kill along Haslams Creek at Sydney Olympic Park two weeks ago, was not caused by chemical pollution, according to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
