Why not apply to become a Sheriff’s Officer, just like Jennifer Adrichem did two years ago.
You’ll get the training you need to succeed and a supportive team ready to cheer you on plus a range of other benefits such as 10-weeks’ training on full pay, a 35-hour working week with no weekend work and the opportunity to travel across the State to different court locations.
Your new employer, the Department of Communities and Justice NSW which is recruiting applicants for the next training intake, will also support you to complete a Certificate 3 in Government, a nationally recognised qualification.
Jennifer, 44, was looking for a change from her career in sales operations and says making the move is the best thing she has ever done.
“Everyday is different and there is so much job satisfaction,” she said.
“Age is no barrier and so long as you have a driver’s licence and are a permanent resident with reasonable fitness you can apply.
“In my course, there were former flight attendants, a baker, chef, mushroom farmer and sales and marketing people, all looking to make a change to a dependable career with a career path and annual pay increments.”
She said they were also given training around tactical communications and how to de-escalate situations.
“In our role, we are not always seeing people at their best, they could be emotional or we’re helping them deal with sensitive situations,” she said.
“You do develop a certain resilience but we always maintain a sense of empathy and respect and it feels so good helping them feel safe and supported.
“I go home each day feeling good.”
