Lots on for young in holidays

These are just some of the exciting activities on offer in City of Canterbury Bankstown’s jam-packed summer school holiday program.
And for the craftier kids, there’s jewellery beading, rock painting, t-shirt designing and much more.
When it comes to keeping the kids entertained this summer, the council has parents sorted with more than 50 activities for those aged between 5-18 years – there’s something for the tots, the teens and the somewhere-in-betweens.
Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the council knew how important school holiday activities were for local families.
“Local families are feeling the pinch, and we’ll do our bit to ensure that kids don’t miss out on having fun,” he said.
“That’s why a number of our activities are free and low-cost, and within reach of the family budget.”
Young footy fans can kick goals in a series of free clinics with experienced coaches from Football Australia, NSW Touch Football, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and AFL NSW/ACT.
Libraries will also be offering a variety of free activities including movie screenings, games afternoons and craft workshops, while families can get on board and beat the heat with Belmore Youth Resource Centre’s free buses to Cronulla beach.
The Mayor also encouraged parents to book their kids into Canterbury-Bankstown’s Leisure and Aquatic Centre’s five-day learn to swim program.
“As we prepare for a long, hot summer, making sure the kids are safe in and around water is incredibly important,” he said.
“The council does charge a fee, but it’s a great opportunity for children to get affordable swimming lessons and improve their skills quickly.”
