Local youth celebrating first in HSC

Cerdon College Merrylands Principal Lisa-Maree Browning with Annalise Reynolds-Pace

THREE local students are among 126 celebrating from across NSW who have achieved a first place in a 2022 HSC course.

Al-Faisal College Auburn’s Ahmad Mohammed Al-Dawod

Cerdon College Merrylands is celebrating not one but two firsts after Annalise Reynolds-Pace came first in ‘Italian Extension’ as well as ‘Italian Continuers’.
Principal Lisa-Maree Browning says this is an exceptional achievement considering Annalise only started studying Italian a few years ago.
“Italian is not part of Annalise’s family background and she only developed her love of the language after going on an immersion tour to Italy in Year 8,” Ms Browning said.
“This achievement is testament to her commitment and hard work.”
A fantastic example of success which aligns with the school’s motto ‘Aspire to Great Heights’, Annalise plans to study to be a paramedic this year and to travel.
“I was not expecting to do so well but I am very happy and excited,” she said.
Also celebrating, Al-Faisal College Auburn student Ahmad Mohammed Al-Dawod came first in ‘Arabic Continuers’.
Al-Faisal Deputy Principal Safia Khan Hassnein said the school was incredibly proud of Ahmad.
“Hats off to him and to all of our staff members who have been absolutely amazing,” she said.
“Ahmad’s hard work has certainly paid off.”
Alpha Omega Senior College Auburn student Zayn Boulad came first in ‘English Standard’, with Deputy Principal Wesam Krayem saying the prospect of doing well in English was daunting for many migrant students.
“When someone actually cracks the glass ceiling, such as Zayn, it will hugely inspire the next generation coming through,” he said.
