Local libraries jam-packed with range of top activities

SOUND off with EDGE Ashfield, hear about civic architecture’s role in developing a sense of community and take a step into virtual reality at Inner West Council libraries in September.

• Richard Holt will discuss his artistic practice including his installations as part of Ashfield EDGE 2019 and perform on his one-of-a-kind electric guitar/typewriter hybrid at Ashfield Library on September 4, 6.30-7.30pm.
• Andre Callanan and Orit Meylakh will discuss the importance of civic architecture as they present the new Marrickville Library on September 18, 6.30-8.30pm.
• University lecturer Sam Shpall will discuss themes in the history of philosophical thinking about love, friendship, and women’s freedom, at Leichhardt Library on September 19, 6.30-7.30pm.
• Learn skills to create a design and present it using room-scale virtual reality at Marrickville Library on September 21, 10.30-12.30pm. Cost, $10.
• Enjoy a guided tour of the new Marrickville Library and Pavilion from September 1-13, with tours running twice day and in Greek on September 17 at 10am; Vietnamese on September 19 at 10am; and in Chinese on September 20 at 10am. Bookings required.
• Teens can watch an awesome anime or cool movie, try gaming and the new VR headset or just meet up, hang out and eat popcorn at the Teen Screen meet up at
Marrickville Library on September 26, 3.45-6pm.
• Bring what you are reading, or discover something new, for the Australian Reading Hour at Ashfield and Leichhardt libraries on September 19, 4-5pm, for ages 5-12.
