Local commander’s awarded top medal

AUBURN police commander Superintendent Danielle Emerton was awarded the prestigious Australian Police Medal (APM) for outstanding service.

She was one of 10 officers to receive the award from NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb APM, who was “beyond proud of the officers recognised”.
Supt Emerton said she was thrilled and grateful to have been awarded the medal and with so much incredible work achieved by police every day, was overwhelmed to have been recognised.
“An APM is the highest honour that can be awarded for distinguished police service, so this is a highlight of my 29 year-long career in the NSW Police Force,” he said.
Supt Emerton joined the NSW Police Force in 1994 at Newtown Police Station and was first recognised as a Probationary Constable in 1995, when she received a Region Commander’s Unit Citation for her involvement in a siege situation where she was threatened by an armed offender.
First on the scene, she was confronted and threatened by a male with a firearm.
“I engaged him and called for back-up. The situation was contained and he was arrested without further incident.,” she said.
In 2014, she was promoted to Inspector, where she performed tactical and portfolio duties at Burwood and Northern Beaches Police Area Commands. She received a Region Commander’s Commendation in recognition for her professionalism, courage and bravery exhibited in the peaceful resolution of a siege in Enfield in 2015.
From 2016 to 2021, she relieved extensively as PAC Commander in all three Metropolitan Regions.
Last year, Supt Emerton created the iLead Women’s Development Program, a course which aims to embrace and strengthen women’s leadership, while also gaining a variety of experience in specialist, corporate, emergency management, tactical and managerial positions.
Commissioner Webb says the officers have shown incredible dedication to service and are the very definition of what it means to be an exceptional member of our force.
“From pioneering new policing strategies, to championing minority groups in their local communities, I thank these officers for their contribution and commitment,” she said.
