Living Room gifts school veggie garden makeover

DECIDING to do something about their once popular garden that had grown wild during Covid, Campsie Public School enlisted the help of the experts from TV show The Living Room.

Two of the show’s stars, Miguel Maestre and Jamie Durie, were more than happy to help the school’s Green Team, led by Mrs Messiter, give the garden a wonderful makeover, the results of which were featured on the show in early August.
Also giving Marcella a hand in the canteen, Miguel advised the best uses for the newly planted fruits, vegetables and herbs in the garden such as rocket, spinach, chives, chillies, lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, leeks and more.
Parents and students now assist the Green Team in garden maintenance on ‘Wild Wednesdays’ at 8-8.45am and 3.15-4pm.
Principal Berlinda Cook said it was wonderful to see the garden being brought back to life and a renewed sense of enjoyment among their garden club.
“It’s so much more user-friendly and apart from growing a range of nutritious fruits, veggies and herbs, our teachers sometimes conduct their lessons in the garden,” she said.
“We are just so thrilled and grateful to The Living Room for their support, they have made such a difference to all of our school community and the whole local area.”
