While health and safety measures are in place to ensure the event is Covid-safe and adheres to health directives, families and friends are encouraged to bring a picnic rug and join the celebrations at Holroyd Gardens on January 26, from 6-9pm.
Cumberland Mayor, Cr Lisa Lake says that Australia Day is one of our nation’s most loved holidays, giving people the chance to get together and celebrate what it truly means to be Australian.
“On Australia Day, we acknowledge the contribution of all Australians and in Cumberland, we will see people of all cultures celebrating what we love about our country and community,” she said.
“The diversity of Cumberland is so vibrant and lively. It’s a great depiction of what defines us as Australians.”
Residents are encouraged to gather the family and come along to enjoy main stage performances by local artists, live shows by BBC’s Bluey and Bingo, an outdoor cinema and, of course, the fireworks display.
Celebrations on the day will also include the announcement of the Citizen of the Year and Community Pride Awards, held in conjunction with a special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at the Eric Tweedale Stadium, where 250 residents will join the Cumberland community as its newest Australian citizens.
