He said it was great news for members who worked hard to secure the upgrade grant last year but Covid and wet weather saw work postponed to refurbish the discus cage, javelin runway, high jump fans, long jump and pole vault runways and replace the ancient watering system.
“We are starting later but the season will run longer until the end of March,” he said.
Peter says they are planning to use as much of the track as possible in the first two to four weeks and to run the other events in the grassed area adjacent.
“These changes mean we won’t be able to run jump events, however, in this period, we hope to focus on technique and skills development,” he said.
“We are also working on engaging more coaches and committee members.
“Roles like uniforms officer, equipment manager, starter, timer and general helpers on the night are needed and we hope some may provide fresh ideas to help us develop.
“In the end, we are all doing it to give the kids a chance to grow, make friends and have fun.”
With registrations opening soon, fees have gone up $150 for the season in accordance with Little Athletics NSW who have also increased their charges.
Active kids vouchers are welcome to offset the cost increase.
Assistance with registration will be available on September 23 and 30, 6.30-8pm, at the Wyatt Park clubhouse, with proof of age required for all new members.
