Lifting PCYC to gold records

FOUR Auburn powerlifters are off to the State Championships after winning gold at the Adonis Summer Classic.

Their wins put them among a talented group of powerlifters from Auburn PCYC who have qualified for the State Powerlifting Championships.
All four winners – Elizabeth Napoli (Under 69kg Open Female winner), Patrick Conguista (Under 83kg Junior Male winner), BJ Muir-Helou (Under 105kg Open Male winner) and Louise Muir-Helou (Under 63kg Junior Female winner) – will now compete in front of a home crowd at Auburn PCYC on April 10 and 11.
Coming 11th at the Powerlifting World Championships in 2019 in Sweden, Elizabeth said they were also looking forward to attending the National Powerlifting Championships later in the year, in which they had all done well previously, with the World titles most likely cancelled over Covid concerns as was the case in 2020.
The PCYC’s Gymnastics Co-ordinator, Elizabeth has been powerlifting – which is the safest style of weight lifting and becoming highly competitive across the nation – for only three years.
“I like to keep challenging myself and lifting more and more,” she said.
“Powerlifting is great for fitness, it builds muscle and increases bone density plus it’s really great socially, especially at Auburn PCYC.
“I would encourage others to give it a go; it’s so empowering to be strong.”
