Lifetime Achievement win for club chairman

BANKSTOWN Sports is incredibly proud of its Chairman John Murray OAM who has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from ClubsNSW, for his tireless efforts working for our community for almost 80 years.

John has been volunteering in the Canterbury Bankstown area since the age of seven.
He has served the club for more than 60 years, initially as one of the founding members, followed by various roles on the board including the last 17 years as Chairman.
During that time, he has been actively involved in fundraising for our associated sporting clubs, and local community partners including Bankstown City Aged Care, Lions Club, Bankstown Legacy, Youth Off The Streets and Guide Dogs Australia.
Away from the club, John has also been a volunteer member of the Rural Fire Service, he helped to raise $1.5m for Rett Syndrome after his granddaughter was diagnosed with the disorder, and he’s raised money for the Leukaemia Foundation and The Lisa Farmer Foundation.
In 2018, he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in recognition for his service to the community of Bankstown.
Now in 2023, he has been acknowledged by ClubsNSW for his incredible efforts with Bankstown Sports Group CEO Michael Clancy saying the honour is well-deserved.
“I am pretty confident in saying there would be few other individuals as selfless and dedicated to the community as John, and I am thrilled that he has been recognised by ClubsNSW for his service to the community,” he said.
