She replaces Cr Bilal El-Hayek, who Mayor Khal Asfour described as “a rock”, saying his support and work with the community has been an integral part of what council has achieved during this difficult year.
The Mayor said he was excited to see Cr Harika taking up the role, “because she has much to contribute to our City”.
Cr Harika said she was really excited and proud to have the opportunity to serve as Deputy Mayor.
“As Deputy Mayor, I will continue to prioritise meeting with local ratepayers, community groups, sporting, charitable and religious organisations, and doing my best to be their voice on the council,” she said.
“To me the best thing about being on the council is being able to achieve the small wins that mean so much to my local community.
“Whether it is improving safety on roads, improving footpaths, delivering local sporting infrastructure, following up on waste services, or seeking innovation on how the council can improve in delivering its services to local community through smart technology, I will be working my hardest every day to advocate on behalf of the Bass Hill Ward and Canterbury Bankstown community.”
Excited about taking on this role, she is looking forward to working with the Mayor Khal Asfour and all fellow councillors “to make Canterbury Bankstown City a great place to live, work and raise a family”.
