Legacy invites all to sign on as virtual volunteers to help

THE largest Legacy division in Sydney, Bankstown South West group has hosted its Annual Appreciation Luncheon at Bankstown Sports Club, welcoming Legatees, RSL members, widow groups, beneficiaries and sponsors.

Chairman Geoff Steen said it was a great opportunity to pass on appreciation for their efforts in helping Bankstown Legacy support 579 local beneficiaries, including 45 with disabilities and 25 children.
He said it was also the perfect opportunity to remind people that Legacy Week was coming up, August 27-September 3, and the need for volunteers to help sell fundraising merchandise such as badges and bears.
“This year you can also become a ‘virtual volunteer’ via the Legacy website and set up a donation page on your social media,” Geoff said.
“Legacy is the only organisation that purely supports veteran families – and it’s a job they’ve been doing for 100 years, celebrating their centenary this year with the Legacy Torch Relay initiative which has now made its way to Melbourne after visiting Bankstown in July.
“The organisation was founded on a promise made from one digger to another – to ‘look after the missus and the kids’.”
Across Australia, Legacy looks after 40,000 widows in their senior years, younger widows with children and veterans’ dependents with a disability.
