Actively involved with Legacy which supports former veterans, widows and their families, Dick also took on the role of President of the 7th Division Association, with a plaque honouring his service in the Rosegarden at the The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway along the shore of Brays Bay on the Parramatta River.
A long time supporter and friend of the Memorial Walkway and Legacy, Dame Marie has her own family connection with Australian Army veterans and has presided at many commemorations as well as officiating at the opening of Georges Manor 10 years ago.
Dame Marie’s visit followed Advantaged Care at Georges Manor residents and staff hosting their annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event to help raise much needed funds for the Cancer Council NSW.

GEORGES Manor resident David ‘Dick’ Payton OAM, a respected Australian Army veteran, who served in the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo, got a nice surprise earlier this month when former NSW Governor Dame Marie Bashir paid a visit.
