Learn to Skate program now open for enthusiasts of all ages, abilities

HELPING some take their first steps and others return to a hobby they had long given up, the Learn to Skate team at Menai Indoor Sports Centre, say it’s a privilege to be able to share their passion for a sport suitable for people of all ages and skill levels.

Instructor Jess Pettiford has been skating since she was two-years-old thanks to her parents who gave her birthday and Christmas presents that were always sports-based.
Whether it was a cricket bat, soccer ball or pair of skates, she said it was an opportunity to develop fitness, strong muscles and maintain good mental health.
“Since our roller skating club began there have been many advances made in skating and our Learn to Skate program reflects these changes,” she said.
“We use the Skate Stars Learn to Skate program, a program that has five clearly defined levels specially designed to create well rounded skaters with key skating skills which allow them to confidently and safely improve their abilities so that anyone can become a skilled recreational skater with a wide array of tricks and moves.”
When a skater completes the Learn to Skate program, they also have the choice to continue training with the club through the Artistic Skating or Speed Skating branches, moving onto squad training and competitions.”
