As part of Library Health Month in September, Western Sydney Local Health District Health Promotion Officer Dr Monica Nour will be delivering an online talk about healthy lunch and snack ideas for children.
She will be discussing ways of how to present healthy food in fun ways and how to get children involved.
“We know that children involved in food preparation or gardening and growing it, are more likely to try new foods,” she said.
“It encourages them to explore foods and research shows that it can take 15 to 20 exposures before they learn to accept a new food.
“It can be depressing when your child returns their lunchbox untouched but it is important to stay neutral and keep offering healthy choices and I will be discussing a range of strategies available.”
Some of the topics will include: Why healthy food is important for growing children; healthy lunch ideas for home and school lunch boxes; and quick and easy snack ideas.
The session is live with a Q&A session at the end. Parents will be provided with a range of online resources with healthy lunch and snack ideas.
The free class is on offer on Monday, September 6, Tuesday, September 14, and Friday, September 24.
