Learn history of Sikh efforts here

PAYING tribute to their contribution to Australia over the last almost 200 years, a new exhibition, ’Turbans 4 Australia – Sikhs in the South West’, has been praised by Clyde-based Turbans 4 Australia founder Amar Singh.

It tells the story of a continuous journey from the past, embedded with traditions and values from centuries of rich history, into contemporary Australian life.
Tracing their links to Australia back to the 1830s, Sikhs fought with the allied troops in both world wars.
They were also with us on the beaches in Gallipoli as part of the 14th Sikh Regiment at Anzac Cove.
Founded in 2015, Turbans 4 Australia has supported tens of thousands of Australians through tough times, including natural disasters and the pandemic.
Amar said the exhibition comprised three sections, with the first focused on the charity’s work, the second delving into military history while cultural artefacts star in the third.
“It’s only just opened but there has been so much positive feedback already,” he said.
“History and culture lovers as well as anyone who wants to know more about who we are, should definitely come and check it out as it’s a great way to learn.”
It’s on offer at Liverpool Regional Museum (with parking onsite), 462 Hume Highway, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm, until April 27.
