House of Welcome Catering Social Enterprise is hosting a cooking class event at Auburn Centre for Community to celebrate Refugee Week on Friday, June 24, 6-9pm.
Seasoned cooks will share some much-loved recipes to cover a three-course meal, and teach you how to cook authentically from their cultural backgrounds.
Tickets are $90 and this buys you everything you need to cook up and dine in. The class can cater to dietary needs and vegetarian options are available.
All proceeds support refugees and people seeking asylum.
House of Welcome’s Anne Moran hopes the Friday night cooking class becomes a regular monthly event to help support the group’s social enterprise arm, HW Catering.
“Starting from humble beginnings as cooking demo classes at schools, HW Catering has grown into a thriving business offering private catering and thanks to its commercial kitchen opening last year, allows us to offer formalised training opportunities to people seeking asylum and refugees participating in our program,” she said.
HW Catering’s model gives trainees access to professional guidance, recognised industry courses and English language classes, so that they graduate from the program with the foundational knowledge they need to work in a commercial kitchen.
Spaces are limited for the June 24 cooking class so book quickly.
