Launch Sisterhood to aid teen women

ARE you a female aged between 12 and 24 who would like to meet some like-minded ladies for friendship, discuss issues and build skills in areas of interest?

Belmore Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) has introduced a new program called ‘Sisterhood’, on offer from 3pm on Mondays, which was developed as an outcome of the Youth Action Plan created after community consultation with CBCity youth.
Through this consultation, it was revealed that young women in the community wanted a space where they could connect with other females and have open discussions in the areas of interest or issues that were affecting them or their peers.
“The group is in the process of developing a podcast based on different conversations and activities they share during the program,” Canterbury Bankstown Youth Programs Officer Daniela Monasterio said.
“One of the outcomes is to increase young women’s skills in areas such as personal development, leadership, event planning, media and communication.
“In this way it is hoped they will have the ability to lead and take part in activities and events for other young women in the community.”
BYRC is a ‘wraparound’ group hosting five different organisations offering a wide range of services for young women and men, such as case management, counselling, nurse check-ups, educational programs, fun activities and youth drop-ins.
“Our large range of support suits different needs and helps young people build meaningful connections with other young people, increasing their well-being and community participation,” Daniela said.
