Hosted by Bluesky Immigration and Student Consultancy Services, a group which has been providing migration and student services for the past 17 years, the tournament ran on consecutive Sundays from February 28 to March 7.
With Tournament Manager Naveed Mohammed seeding 12 teams into groups after participants submitted entries via the Bluesky Cricket Cup website, the three other teams making it to the semi-finals comprised Bluesky Riders, Lakemba Shaheen and D&Q Bankstown Strikers.
Consisting of migrants and international students, players come from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with umpires Savyasachy Kolli, Charan, Shahbaz and Faseeh all hailing from Hyderabad Telangana in southern India.
Barkas Cricket Club defeated D&Q Bankstown Strikers in the final match after an exceptional batting performance by Yaseen Bahmaid.
One of the chief guests, Education Centre Australia CEO Rupesh Singh praised the teams for their hard work and said he appreciated the overall management of the tournament and final match which was live-streamed by YesTV Australia.
Shayaz Khan thanked the sponsors and core team members Naveed, Mudabbir Hussain, Faiz Mohammed, Abdul Imran, Hashim Raza, Mudabbir Khan and Jahanzaib Babur.
Naveed said: “Bluesky intends to continue hosting multicultural cricket tournaments in the future and the efforts by management to conduct this tournament so successfully were very much appreciated by everyone.”
Kick off festivities with Bluesky Cup
AN EXCITING example of multicultural sporting success, the Bluesky Cricket Cup tournament has helped kick off Harmony Week celebrations this month after four teams battled it out, with Barkas Cricket Club taking the honours at Parry Park Lakemba.
