Just $2 to help child break poverty cycle

HELPING ease the financial pressures that a new school year can put on parents doing it tough, the Officeworks Back to School Appeal has won plenty of support from the community.

Customers are invited to buy a $2, $5, $10 or $20 donation card with the money going to the Smith Family to help families afford the cost of their child’s essential school supplies, as well as providing personal support and extra educational programs to help them stay motivated and connected to their learning.
A spokesperson for Auburn Officeworks said it was encouraging to see so many people get on board.
“Every child deserves quality education and every donation will go a long way to help make that happen,” she said.
Smith Family CEO Doug Taylor says one in six Australian children and young people are growing up living in poverty and unfortunately, the Covid crisis has only compounded the challenges and hardships facing those in need, including access to education essentials.
He says the funds will help “provide targeted educational support – a key way to help children in need break the cycle of poverty”.
To support the appeal, make a donation in store or online at officeworks.com.au until February 6.
