With one in 20 children affected by a genetic disease, CMRI is an independent organisation with over 170 scientists committed to finding treatments and cures, aiming to make the incurable curable.
“I saw their bike ride challenge and it was such a worthwhile cause, I decided taking part was the motivation I needed to actually ride the bike that had been sitting in my backroom for two years (one of those Covid purchases),” Reg said.
“The idea is you set how many kilometres you will commit to cycle anywhere and a dollar goal of how many donations you’re hoping to receive.”
Last year Reg set 301km and $2,500 as his goals but at the completion, had cycled 501km and raised $7,578.
This year he will commit to riding 501km but keep the fundraising goal at $2,500 due to cost of living pressures.
“It’s really been a journey of discovery as I’ve found amazing tracks such as one from the airport to Kurnell, stopping at Captain Cook’s landing spot and seeing the beaches, windsurfers, wetlands and mangroves along the way,” he said.
“We’ve also got Lake Gillawarna here and the track near Guildford takes you out to Prospect Reservoir plus there’s rides around Narrabeen Lakes, Chipping Norton Lake and Sydney Olympic Park – all truly fascinating and everyone who’s able to, should give it a go.”
